I never turn down an invitation to my daughter Heather’s home – there are grandchildren there.
Last Friday there was also chocolate – really good chocolate.
My daughter hosted a Dove Chocolate Discoveries Party, hosted by a blast from my past, Carolyn White.
I met Carolyn when she set up the first ghost tour for the State Theatre way back when.
While I have heard of various other home parties, the Dove party is a new one on me.
For good reason, says Carolyn Dove has only been coming into homes for three or four years.
Carolyn brought it to Bay City last November.
“We were at a county fair in Wisconsin, walking through the booths,” she said. “Dove had products on display and I found out you can only get this Dove line through parties.”
Although professing she can’t cook outside of frying an egg and making pancakes, Carolyn decided to become a chocolatier and bring the parties to the Great Lakes Bay Region.
“When I saw the apron (dark chocolate with aqua trim), I was hooked,” she laughed. “It’s so fun and so rewarding.”
And, with the mixes from the Dove line, everything is so easy to make.
We started the White Chocolate Raspberry Diaiquiri Mix, with and without rum. By adding ice and the mix to the blender, we had a refreshing summer slushy.
Using the Choco-Toffee Chip Cookie and a mini muffin tin, Carolyn made Toffee Cookie Cups with Mocha Mousse, by simply making a well in the center of the cookie and filling it with the mousse.
She also explained the difference between mousse and ganache.
“For the mousse, you melt chocolate and add cold whipping cream,” she says. “For the ganache, you add cold chocolate to the whipping cream.
And, here is another tip. When you are melting chocolate in the microwave, do it 20 seconds at a time. It prevents burning, says Carolyn.
She also whipped up a trifle with raspberry chai tea caramelized cocoa nubs, the remaining ganache and Cool Whip.
This is one of those group desserts. We all grabbed a spoon and dug in. We finished off the evening with dark chocolate cupcakes made by Heather.
And, as a bit of trivia. Dove Chocolates is part of the M&M Mars Family.
If you would like to know more about the parties or become a chocolatier yourself, give Carolyn a call at 980-7101, or check out her Web site at of check out Dove’s Web site, – where by the way, I found a ton of recipes using the chocolates.
And yes, there was a grandchild there. Dylan had a good time chatting with all the ladies.
