Just as we get used to the new trends in color and patterns for home decorating “they” add some new ideas. Who are “they”?; they are the color gurus found at places like The Color Marketing Group (CMG) and Pantone. Their job is to forecast the colors that will be popular in both fashion and home design and offer reasons that explain their choices. For the upcoming fall season they have chosen warm and familiar colors that draw on the previous season’s colors. This is in keeping with the popular idea of re-using and re-purposing, i.e. do not change the colors too dramatically so homeowners are able to continue to use items from past seasons. Also, as a result of continuing difficult financial times, reassuring classics and neutral colors are popular. Let’s see what “they” are recommending:
In reviewing these color choices there are not too many surprises. The 2010 color of the year, Turquoise, is a softer muted Lagoon; last years popular Mimosa (yellow) has become a warm and inviting Golden Glow. And, of course, good old neutral standbys are Oyster Gray and Rose Dust. Who wouldn’t look beautiful surrounded by the soft pink tones of Rose Dust? Endive is a softer version of last season’s chartreuse and purple and red continue to be used in every room in the house. What is your favorite new color and will you be able to incorporate these ideas into your existing color scheme?
